
Biography
Marco Bulgarelli was born in Rome in 1973 where he works and lives.
After the studies of history and geography at University "La Sapienza" of Rome and the studies for direction he attended the three-year master at the Roman School of Photography where he graduated in 2002 in reportage with a long-term project about Youth culture. With his work "The Goths" he won the festival "Enzimi".
He started his career in 2003 working for the weekly “L’Espresso“ dealing mainly with news, youth culture and urban and social transformations in Italy and Europe, issues that he continues to follow today. In 2004 he realized "The consumer society", a survey on the world of consumption. From 2005 to 2007 he was represented by Corbis agency. Between 2005 and 2006 he works on a project about the various degrees of integration of the Chinese community in Italy. He published and exposed for National Geographic a reportage about chinese stonemasons who live and work in the Monviso mountain. His interest in south Asia has led him first to Burma for a project about Buddhism and then in 2008 for several months to India, where he documented the present situation of the country: the emerging young middle class - the ecological problems of the Periyar river in Kerala - the iron ore mines in Bellary - the background of the economic boom in the informal working sector, focusing on the conditions of workers in the construction industry and the business of recycling electronic waste.
Since 2002 he began travelling extensively in Eastern Europe, he has documented the lives of the Children of Chernobyl in the orphanages in Belarus (2002), the transition of Estonia in UE (2003), the east German crisis (2004), contemporary Budapest (2007), Belgrade summer (2008) and the Danube Delta (2010). From 2008 he is engaged in a long-term project on the Danube river.
In 2010 "Abruzzo earthquake" has been SHORTLISTED FOR THE SONY PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS

From December 2010 his work is distributed worldwide by GAMMA agency.
In 2011, his interest was focused on the Arab world, Syria and Egypt. From January 2012 is also distributed by LUZphoto agency. He collaborates with the most important Italian and international publishers.
